In 1906, the Moogera Paddock Estate was sold, with the land centred around the wetlands of Coulsen’s and Reynold’s Creek. The estate was advertised as being close to the proposed Via Recta railway, which was never built.
Construction of the Moogerah Dam began in 1959 and was completed in 1961. The dam is located on Reynolds Creek, a tributary of the Bremer River, and is the central catchment of the Warrill Valley Water Supply Scheme.
The Moogerah Peaks National Park surrounds the Moogerah Dam with volcanic peaks and rocky cliffs. The park was created in stages including the gazettement of Mount Greville as a national park in 1948, and the amalgamation of all the small national park peaks into Moogerah Peaks National Park in 1994.
The peaks’ inaccessibility saved many undisturbed stands of timber and significant wildlife habitats.
The area is well worth a visit and makes a good day trip from Brisbane or the Gold Coast.
What a beautiful area! Love the blues of the water.
Thank you Henry, very lucky to have this area so close to home.
